ANGELES CITY: The Philippines’ first Independence
Day anniversary originally celebrated here in 1899 by Gen. Emilio
Aguinaldo will be reenacted at the historic Pamintuan Mansion here
today with former Mayor Ed Pamintuan as guest of honor and speaker.
The mansion located at the corner
of Miranda and Sto. Entierro streets now occupied by Central Bank
will be open to the public during the Independence Day Celebration.
Shortly after the reenactment,
visitors will march to the Museo Ning Angeles where free services
will be conducted by various government agencies.
Former city mayor Pamintuan, now
secretary of the Subic-Clark Alliance for Development Council (SCAD)
said that today’s Freedom Day activities will include a
civic-military motorcade around the city’s principal streets,
flag-raising ceremony, and a separate speech by Mayor Francis
Nepomuceno.
Some of the free services to be
conducted the whole day at the Museo Ning Angeles include legal
assistance for land reform farmers by the Department of Agrarian
Reform, procedures and assistance on the registration of motor
vehicles and renewal of driver’s licenses by the Land
Transportation Office, information on how to apply and secure
passports by the Department of Foreign Affairs, steps on how to
apply and secure clearances from the police and the National Bureau
of Investigation, free medical consultations, haircut, manicure,
pedicure and massage, distribution of free seedlings and plants and
a mini job fair.
Independence Day activities in
Angeles City started on Tuesday at the Nepo Quadrangle with various
events like peace street demonstrations and a parade of colorful
floats from different barangays and schools in the city.
Mayor Oscar Rodriguez of
the neighboring City of San Fernando also has prepared for a
“bigger and colorful” celebration today, including a
civic-military parade to be joined by various colorful floats, brass
bands from Camp Olivas and the city hall, Philippine Air Force
headquarters in Floridablanca town.
