CommunicAsia and BroadcastAsia 2008 highlights – The hottest technologies today

Four days in June, from 17 to 20 June 2008, will see infocomm and media giants participate in an event that promises to shape the way we communicate, collaborate, entertain and enjoy content tomorrow. CommunicAsia2008 and BroadcastAsia2008, Asia's premier trade events for the infocomm and media industries will play host to companies who are making significant contributions in these vibrant industries.

At CommunicAsia2008, the WiMAX and IPTV/mobile entertainment clusters are larger than ever, with more exhibitors presenting the latest in these hot technologies. Other highlights will include Satellite communications and Next-Generation Networks vendors who will provide a sneak peak at connectivity solutions. This year, visitors will see the biggest ever 1,700 square metre Singapore Pavilion at CommunicAsia. The Singapore Pavilion will also be the biggest pavilion at the show.

Internet giant, Yahoo will preview search applications for mobile users using intuitive mini Web pages to present search results on mobile screens and voice recognition technology at CommunicAsia2008. A particular field which also has a strong showing of exhibitors is from location based services (LBS) and navigation solutions. Catch leading companies such as Garmin, NAVTEQ and Tele Atlas who will be on site to share their latest offerings and announcements.

NAVTEQ will be hosting for the first time in Asia Pacific, the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge. This year's global prize pool, consisting of cash and data licenses, is the largest ever worth over USD4.5 million. Garmin will also be showcasing the much anticipated Nüvifone – a breakthrough product that mobile phone and GPS users around the world have been waiting for - a single device that combines communication, mobile web, and navigation. Tele Atlas will be on site with the Mobile Mapping Van – a first in Asia. The van is designed to take 360 degree images of the streets. This helps to provide a 3D view for the company's Mobile Mapping System.

"CommunicAsia and BroadcastAsia are key events in the ICT world in Asia. Each year, the exhibitors wow us with what they present at the show, and this year will be no different. I believe many companies at both exhibitions will have very exciting news for the technology world come this June." said Mr Stephen Tan, chief executive of Singapore Exhibition Services (SES).

At BroadcastAsia2008, preview the best and latest professional AV, Film & Broadcast products and solutions from providers such as Sony, Panasonic, BT Media, Dalet, Google, and Quantel.

With the media industry booming in Singapore, the Singapore Pavilion at BroadcastAsia2008 boasts its largest ever, at 1,200sqm of exhibition space for Singaporean digital broadcasting industry representatives. Led by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), more than 35 Singapore-based digital technology and media companies will be showcasing their latest products and applications. Visitors can view specialty Interactive Digital Media exhibits and the latest Protocol TV, Mobile TV and High-definition TV technologies, applications and services.

This year's BroadcastAsia2008 also updates the HD Studio Xperience, which recreates the experience of producing HD content. This year's HD Xperience will explain how to leverage Media Asset Management (MAM) technology to help broadcasters transform their workflows and benefit more from open standards based production and archiving. This HD Studio provides a comprehensive and end to end overview of how MAM is a key factor in determining the success of broadcasters in the HD era.

A breathtaking highlight from BroadcastAsia2008 will be NHK, who will be showing for the first time in Asia outside of Japan its Super Hi-vision (Ultrahigh-Definition Wide-Screen System with 4000 Scanning Lines) system. The system, which offers resolution 16 times higher than regular HDTV, comes with 7680 x 4320 pixels and a 3-D audio system with 24 speakers. At BroadcastAsia2008, visitors can witness first hand, just how life-like this screen can be.
