Metro Manila residents can experience lesser hassle in traveling to
Southern Luzon if the construction of a central transport terminal
along the Circumferential Road (C-5) in Taguig City pushes through.
A memorandum of agreement between the Taguig
City government and the Department of National Defense was recently
signed for the conduct of a feasibility study for the construction
of the Southern Regional Transport Terminal Complex.
Taguig City Mayor Freddie Tińga said the
proposed public transport terminal will rise on a three-hectare land
along C-5 near the exit leading to the South Luzon Expressway,
adding that the terminal will feature world-class amenities and
facilities.
“The project will benefit us in many ways. Not
only will it help ease up traffic in the metropolis, but will also
provide many economic opportunities by way of government revenues
and job opportunities for our people,” Tińga said.
Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr. lauded Tińga
for his initiatives in continuously developing Taguig.
“There’s no need of thinking twice in
approving this kind of constructive views, and I respect how the
mayor introduces more development in his community,” Teodoro said.
Under the agreement, the Defense department
authorizes Taguig to use a three-hectare property owned by the
military as site of the proposed project, subject to applicable
laws.
Once it is finished, the southern terminal will
serve provincial buses plying the southern provincial routes. It
will serve as the central link for various transport installations,
such as the international and domestic airports and the Metro Rail
Transit.
