DAPHNE TECSON scored 17 points as Adamson University
won the Nike Summer League women’s title over defending champion
University of Santo Tomas, 73-61, Friday at the Philsports Arena in
Pasig City.
Kat Sandel, who was named
women’s MVP, added 15 points, while Analyn Almazan finished with
11 points and 20 rebounds for the Lady Falcons, who took a 73-54
advantage going into the final two minutes.
“It was a team effort at the
defensive end. We did a good job of limiting [Marichu] Bacaro and I
think that was the key,” said Adamson coach Emelia Vega, whose
team placed fourth in the UAAP wars last season and are looking to
improve on its record this year.
Bacaro, who missed 12 of 15
attempts from the field, finished with 11 points. Nikki Leonardo led
UST with 13 points while Remia Buenacosa had 12 points and 10
rebounds.
