Praying for Ces Drilon & Co.

Regarding the column of Rene Q. Bas (Enthusiasms & Forebodings, June 13, 2008):

Yes, my wife and I do care what happens to Ces and her companions. We have had daily Masses said for their safety and release. We ask readers of The Times to do the same.

Praying for Ces, mad at AFP officers and cops

Of course, we care about Ces Drilon. Even Pinoys here in the USA, like me, and those in other parts of the world are reeling in anxiety because of this sad event. You may not realize it but most Pinoys abroad are following up the day by day news in our beloved land, that’s why we know by name all media people like you. I don’t know how much influence I have with God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) but I do pray solemnly for Ces Drilon.

At the same time, I cannot help but complain about my disappointment and frustration with our armed forces and PNP. Jolo is such a small island, not any bigger than Bulacan, and yet our armed forces and the PNP could not find those culprits who should have been eradicated long before Ces was kidnapped.

It may sound ironic but it would have been much much cheaper and more effective to hire mercenaries to eradicate those undesirables in Mindanao, especially Basilan and Sulu, than to maintain the current armed forces and PNP whose officers seem to outnumb those on the lower ranks.

Another thing: Why are the main and greater part of those peace enforcers concentrated in cities specially the Metro Manila? They should all be deployed in isolated and remote areas where the rebels and terrorists thrive. All the officers want are increase in pay and allowance and promotions in rank yet they never earned what they got.

Unfortunate but we don’t care

No, we don’t care about Ces Drilon! It’s unfortunate she and her companions were kidnapped, but no, we don’t care.

As far as the newscasters at ABS-CBN and GMA go, its like watching the Wowowee circus now. Whatever ever happened to the old newscasters who did not yell out the news reports as if they were announcing a horserace? I mean come on, Julius, Ted and Mike E. are the worst newscasters in the business and let’s not even mention why there’s a showbiz segment report along with the hard news. I mean who produces these shows? I guess this is what sells in our country and that’s saying a lot.
