MALACAÑANG is set to appoint Finance Undersecretary Roberto B. Tan
as the country’s new national treasurer after he served as the
Bureau of Treasury’s officer-in-charge for over a year.
Serving two decades at the Department of
Finance, Tan heads the International Finance Group. He has been in
the Bureau of Treasury since April last year after Omar T. Cruz
resigned on speculations of a policy rift in the Finance department.
Rosalia V. de Leon, currently the chief of staff
of Finance Secretary Margarito B. Teves and also an official of
state-run Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp., will take over Tan’s
position at the Finance department.
Tan is in South Korea Monday with Teves
attending the on-going Asia-Europe Finance Ministers’ Meeting.
Tan told The Manila Times that he will issue an
statement upon returning from his trip Tuesday.
The acting national treasurer also served as an
advisor to the Board Executive Director of the Asian Development
Bank from 1995 to 1998.
Prior to working for the finance department, he
worked as consultant for Carlos J. Valdes and Co., as finance and
treasurer manager for PCI Bank’s credit card subsidiary Bankard,
and as senior financial and marketing analyst for Nowark
Redevelopment and Housing Authority in New Jersey.
Tan studied at the Ateneo de Manila University
and Fordham University in New York.
