TANDAG CITY: International Master Ronald Bancod is thrilled to carry
the banner of Oriental Mindoro in national competition for the first
time.
“Very supportive ang local government ng
Oriental Mindoro,” said Bancod, who has three wins and a draw in
five games in the ongoing Vicente Pimentel, Sr. Memorial National
Inter-Province Chess Team Championship at the Surigao del Sur
Polytechnic State Colleges here.
“This is my first time na mag-represent ng
team sa inter-province na mismong mga officials ng probinsiya ang
sumama para suportahan kami.”
Heading the Oriental Mindoro delegation are
Board Member Butch Soller and Provincial Sports Coordinator Robert
Mendoza.
Bancod is expected to represent Oriental Mindoro
on a bigger stage soon.
His team is the defending champion in the 5th

planned, Bancod and Co. will represent Oriental Mindoro-Philippines
in the prestigious event.
The other members of the team are former
National Artists champions Christopher Castellano and Albert Rivera,
five-time UAAP board medalist Jojo Aquino and six-time Executive
Chess champion Jenny Mayor.
“It will be an honor for the province of
Oriental Mindoro to represent the country in international
competition,” said Mendoza.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City-Negros Occidental downed
overnight leader Rizal, 2.5-1.5, to grab the overall leadership in
the nine-round event organized by the National Chess Federation of
