IMPORT Steven Thomas played true to form as Air 21 downed Welcoat
91-87 Wednesday to gain a quarterfinal slot in the 2008 Smart-PBA
Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.
Thomas finished with 29 points for the Express,
who grabbed solo leadership with 10 wins against 6 losses.
Gary David accounted for 14 points while Homer
Se and Arwind Santos chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively for
Air21, which needs two more wins to earn the first automatic semis
berth.
Air21’s victory spoiled the return of Alex
Compton, who replaced import Corey Santee, who was sent home after
scoring only 3 points in Welcoat’s game against Alaska on June 11.
“We are not yet there, but we are very close
to it already. We have to do more and be more prepared every
game,” said coach Bo Perasol after the Express handed the Dragons
their 12th loss against 4 wins.
“We have a very strong chance of making it to
the semifinals for the first time but it’s not yet over, we will
be stronger this time to really accomplish it,” added Perasol.
Import Marquis Gainous had 34 points, Compton
scored 16 and Jay-Arr Reyes made 13 for Welcoat.
