THE Department of Public Works and Highways is set to award
citations to three civil society groups for helping the department
become more responsive in infrastructure development.
To be given citations are the Procurement Watch
Inc., Concerned Citizens of Abra for Good Government and the
Transparency and Accountability Network.
The three groups were among the partner
organizations of the department in ensuring transparency in the
implementation of programmed infrastructure works.
The awarding of citations will take place on
Monday during the department’s 110th anniversary rites at its main
office in Port Area, Manila.
Public works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr.
said the three civil society groups passed the screening of the
department’s 110th Anniversary Search and Selection Committee for
Awardees.
The three were chosen by the department based on
merits of the quality of their activities, intervention and
contributions/results in attaining of performance and management
criteria.
Procurement Watch Inc. was formed to help
eliminate graft and corruption in the government through procurement
reforms.
Concerned Citizens of Abra for Good Government
is a nongovernmental organization whose objective is to promote good
governance. It already uncovered irregularities in the
implementation of infrastructure projects in Abra.
Transparency and Accountability Network is a
coalition of 25 multi-sectoral organizations that was founded to
weed out corruption and promote a corruption-intolerant society.
The three have also actively participated in the
creation of the Bantay Lansangan or Road Watch program.
