Phone Pals get back at Giants

REN-REN RITUALO scored on a jumper with only 6.4 seconds remaining as Talk ‘N Text snapped a five-game losing spell with a 102-101 win over Purefoods Friday in the 2008 Smart PBA Fiesta Conference at the Cuneta Astrodome.

But it was the 6’9” import Terrence Leather who made the big play for the Phone Pals as he finished with a career-high 39 points that enabled Talk ‘N Text to improve its win-loss record to 8-8.

The Phone Pals also avenged their 79-84 loss to the Giants on May 21 at the Ynares Cultural and Recreation Center in Antipolo City.

Aside from his personal high in the reinforced conference, Leather, who had a brief stint in South Korea before coming here to replace Aaron McGhee barely two weeks ago, also pulled down 22 rebounds and made three block shots.

Purefoods must win its last two games, against Sta. Lucia on June 27 and Air 21 on July 2, to avoid passing through the wildcard phase.

Cardona finished with 17 points, Ritualo had 16 and Ali Peek chipped in 10.

Moroccan Reda Rhalimi led the Giants with 21 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks. Peter Jun Simon added 19 followed by James Yap with 17 points.
