Civil society prepares for int’l meet

Migrant worker support groups have kicked off the so-called Philippine process of the Peoples’ Global Action on Migration, Development and Human Rights to prepare for the Second Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD).

The Second GFMD will be hosted by the Philippines on October 27 to 30, with government and nongovernment representatives of various labor-exporting and labor-importing countries of the world in attendance.

OVERSEAS Filipino workers based in the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) have complained that they still receive $3.55 an hour, despite the legislated new minimum wage of $4.05 an hour for all foreign workers. The law took effect in late May.
