POLYMASTER KINGS and Philippine Star outplayed their respective
rivals at the start of the quarterfinals of the first Prospero
Pichay Cup organized by the Manila Sports Commission President Niņo
de la Cruz at San Andres gym.
Polymaster got a big lift from Richard de la
Rosa, former Alaska player Braulio Lim, and ex-Growling Tiger Rommel
David, who combined for 44 points to repulse CUSA champion Manuel L.
Quezon University (MLQU) Stallions of Jojo Castillo 91-79.
Mark Tamayo, a PBA draftee, carried the fight
for MLQU with a career-high 42 points but his effort was not enough.
In the other game, league-leader Philippine Star
walked the tightrope before beating newcomer Juan Card 88-84.
Ver Roque topscored for the Star Men with 24
points while Jong Bundoc and Gio Goquila chipped in 13 and 12
points, respectively.
Former Jose Rizal University star Rendel de la
Rea led Juan Card with 27 points followed by Vergel Catiquista with
20 points.
