Polymaster, Star prevail

POLYMASTER KINGS and Philippine Star outplayed their respective rivals at the start of the quarterfinals of the first Prospero Pichay Cup organized by the Manila Sports Commission President Niņo de la Cruz at San Andres gym.

Polymaster got a big lift from Richard de la Rosa, former Alaska player Braulio Lim, and ex-Growling Tiger Rommel David, who combined for 44 points to repulse CUSA champion Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU) Stallions of Jojo Castillo 91-79.

Mark Tamayo, a PBA draftee, carried the fight for MLQU with a career-high 42 points but his effort was not enough.

In the other game, league-leader Philippine Star walked the tightrope before beating newcomer Juan Card 88-84.

Ver Roque topscored for the Star Men with 24 points while Jong Bundoc and Gio Goquila chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Former Jose Rizal University star Rendel de la Rea led Juan Card with 27 points followed by Vergel Catiquista with 20 points.
