CROMWELL, Connecticut: American Stewart Cink shot a 6-under par 64
to take a one-shot lead after two rounds of the $6-million USPGA
Travelers Championship on Friday.
Despite bogeys on the first two holes Friday,
Cink roared back to the top of the leaderboard, buoyed by a pair of
eagles at the par-5 sixth and 13th holes to move to 10-under 130 at
the TPC River Highlands.
The 1997 champion of this event when it was
known as the Greater Hartford Open, Cink wrapped five birdies around
a bogey at the 10th hole to go with the dual eagles.
Defending champion Hunter Mahan is in a
three-way tie for second place after signing for a blistering
7-under 63.
After an opening-round 68, Mahan carded a
bogey-free round that featured seven birdies to join Ken Duke and
Lucas Glover, who each signed for a 66, at 9-under 131.
Duke and Glover, who both started the round one
shot off the pace, each had five birdies and a bogey.
Brad Adamonis, who was in a four-way tie for the
lead after the first round, carded a 68 to moved into a three-way
tie with Kevin Sutherland and Michael Thompson at 132.
Kenny Perry (67) heads a group of four players
at 7-under 133, while a cluster of 15 players, including Vijay Singh
(68), Corey Pavin (66), Steve Elkington (64), 2003 British Open
champion Ben Curtis (66) and England’s Brian Davis (70), one of
the first-round co-leaders.
Canada’s Jon Mills birdied six of the final 10
holes en route to a 64 to join the large contingent at 134.
