THE Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) joins other 204 National
Olympic Committees all over the world in celebrating the 114th
foundation day of the Olympic Movement with its staging of the
Olympic Day Run Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
POC President Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr.,
International Olympic Committee member Frank Elizalde and Ronald
McDonald lead some 1,000 runners in the run starting at 6 a.m.
Cojuangco said the Olympic Day Run, an effective
Sports-for-All activity, has developed through the years into an
enduring showcase of the strong partnership between the POC and
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
Also expected to attend are PSC Chairman Butch
Ramirez with Commissioners Ritchie Garcia, Joey Mundo, Boy de Luna
and Eric Loretizo.
The 2008 edition of the Olympic Day Run has
three events: 10K for the general public, 10K wheelathon and a 3K
fun run for the national team, pool members of various sports and
the POC, Philippine Sportswriters Association and national sports
association officials.
In the 10K wheelathon, the top three male and
female finishers will get P3,000, P2,000, P1,000 each plus a trophy.
Finishers in the 10K races are entitled to a shirt and a certificate
signed by International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge.
