Cojuangco, Elizalde lead
Olympic Day Run at MOA

THE Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) joins other 204 National Olympic Committees all over the world in celebrating the 114th foundation day of the Olympic Movement with its staging of the Olympic Day Run Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

POC President Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr., International Olympic Committee member Frank Elizalde and Ronald McDonald lead some 1,000 runners in the run starting at 6 a.m.

Cojuangco said the Olympic Day Run, an effective Sports-for-All activity, has developed through the years into an enduring showcase of the strong partnership between the POC and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Also expected to attend are PSC Chairman Butch Ramirez with Commissioners Ritchie Garcia, Joey Mundo, Boy de Luna and Eric Loretizo.

The 2008 edition of the Olympic Day Run has three events: 10K for the general public, 10K wheelathon and a 3K fun run for the national team, pool members of various sports and the POC, Philippine Sportswriters Association and national sports association officials.

In the 10K wheelathon, the top three male and female finishers will get P3,000, P2,000, P1,000 each plus a trophy. Finishers in the 10K races are entitled to a shirt and a certificate signed by International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge.

Solar Sports is covering the run on delayed telecast basis while DZSR Sports Radio is covering it live.
