NBA MADNESS, the NBA’s interactive basketball
lifestyle event, tipped off on June 13 at the Activity Center of
Trinoma Mall with new activities for fan of all ages.
Coca-Cola Tigers’ Kenneth Duremdes, Alex
Cabagnot, Mark Macapagal, Ronjay Buenafe and former PBA player
Benjie Paras graced the opening ceremonies that kicked off a
monthlong enjoyment of NBA hoop games and challenges.
Local cage enthusiasts vie for top NBA Madness
honors in the Slam Dunk Competition, Coca-Cola Shooting Stars,
Caltex 2Ball, the DHL Speed Challenge and the NBA 3-point Shootout
at the final stop of the NBA Madness happening on July 10 to 13 at
the Glorietta Mall.
After Trinoma, the Madness will go to Bonifacio
High Street on June 20 to 21, Market! Market! on June 28 to 29,
Alabang Town Center on July 4 to 6.
The champions in each event will have a chance
to get up close and personal with the Sacramento Kings Dance Squad,
Charlotte Bobcats mascot Rufus Lynx and a surprise NBA player.
The Leaderboard, which will showcase the names
and the scores of the top seven scorers of each center court
competition onsite and on the event website, is an added attraction
to the NBA Madness this year. Specially designed 3-rim and 4-rim
baskets are also available for young participants to practice their
shooting.
Carlo Singson, senior manager of marketing
partner NBA Asia, said the NBA Madness, which is on its
seventh-consecutive year in the country, is a testament to the
Philippines as one of the most important markets for the NBA.
“The passion for basketball in the country is
probably the highest in the world. The fan participation, awareness,
and the local basketball here is like no other. This is the perfect
venue for us to have an on-ground event. We’re excited to work
with our partners to help bring the NBA excitement to the fans,”
Singson said.
The Philippines has the longest NBA Madness
celebration. The NBA grassroots event is on its second year in
bringing the Madness to Asian countries.
After Manila, the NBA Madness will proceed to
Korea (July 4 to 6), Taiwan (August 15 to 31), Japan (August 29 to
31), Singapore (September 5 to 7) and Hong Kong (September 12 to
14).
