In a special coffee table book
that compiles 100 nude masterpieces of its distinguished artists
alumni, the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA)
hopes to rekindle the spirit of Guillermo Tolentino’s Oblation
through paying homage to its symbolism and significance as part of
the centennial celebration of the University this year.
Gathering a total of nine
national artists and 70 other artists including those who are queued
to become national artists themselves, the organizing body headed by
Gary Tiongco, UPAA president, is hardbound coffeetable book 100
Nude, 100 Years to be launched on June 19.
The book will feature 15
sculptures by National Artists Napoleon Abueva, and Guillermo
Tolentino and 100 paintings by well-known painters Abdulamari Imao,
Fernando Amorsolo and Carlos Castro, who visualized the human form
in their nude using materials that typify the evolution of art
“from pigments to pixel.” An example was a digital expression of
nude by Cabangis.
