Artworks from children from four elementary schools
in Metro Manila are to be featured in a book to be distributed
during the 41st Association of Southeast Asian (Asean) Ministerial
Meeting in Singapore.
As the current chairman of Asean,
Singapore launched its 40th anniversary commemorative project,
“Asean Children’s Happy Drawings.”
The project involved the visit of
a noted Singaporean artist, Peter Zhou, to elementary schools in
each Asean member-country to conduct drawing sessions with students
on what makes them happy. At the same time, he talked on his
experiences and interactions with students from around the Southeast
Asian region.
Zhou was in the Philippines from
June 16 to 17. This was his last stop in his ten-nation Asean tour.
He visited four elementary schools in Metro Manila—Makati
Elementary School and the Francisco Benitez Elementary School both
based in Makati, and the Fernando Ma. Guerrero Elementary School and
Sta. Ana Elementary School both located in Manila. Around 100
students from each school participated.
The drawings made by the students
will be collected, and the best drawings will be published into a
book entitled What Makes Me Happy—An Asean Children Album.
The book will be distributed
during the 41st Asean Ministerial Meeting to be held in July 2008 in
Singapore.
The Department of Foreign
Affairs, the Department of Education and Embassy of Singapore worked
together on the Philippine leg of the project, which is intended to
raise awareness of Asean among the young people of the region.
