CABANATUAN City: The Provincial Disaster Coordinating
Council (PDCC) readied its forces, composed of police, military,
engineering people and civilian volunteers for any eventualities,
disaster officials said.
This as the local weather
forecaster, Efren Engalla, warned residents of flood-prone areas, to
stay vigilant against possible increase of water levels in creeks
and rivers.
Provincial Disaster Coordinating
Council vice chair, Senior Supt. Napoleon Taas, said that several
teams of search and rescue operatives from the police’s provincial
mobile groups were activated as early as Saturday.
In Cabanatuan City where several
villages, particularly Imelda district and the so-called Ibayong
Ilog barangays were easily inundated, and a group of inter-agency
volunteers were on stand-by, said Supt. Eliseo Cruz, city police
chief.
Interior and Local Government
Director for Nueva Ecija, Dr. Abraham Pascua, said that engineering
equipment is ready for dispatch any time the need arises. Bulldozers
are even positioned in places where soil erosion usually occur.
Gov. Aurelio Umali has asked the
PDCC to make sure the availability of safe evacuation centers,
Pascua stressed.
