CABANATUAN City: The Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) readied its forces, composed of police, military, engineering people and civilian volunteers for any eventualities, disaster officials said.

This as the local weather forecaster, Efren Engalla, warned residents of flood-prone areas, to stay vigilant against possible increase of water levels in creeks and rivers.

Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council vice chair, Senior Supt. Napoleon Taas, said that several teams of search and rescue operatives from the police’s provincial mobile groups were activated as early as Saturday.

In Cabanatuan City where several villages, particularly Imelda district and the so-called Ibayong Ilog barangays were easily inundated, and a group of inter-agency volunteers were on stand-by, said Supt. Eliseo Cruz, city police chief.

Interior and Local Government Director for Nueva Ecija, Dr. Abraham Pascua, said that engineering equipment is ready for dispatch any time the need arises. Bulldozers are even positioned in places where soil erosion usually occur.

Gov. Aurelio Umali has asked the PDCC to make sure the availability of safe evacuation centers, Pascua stressed.
