Yahoo! Philippines recently announced its latest
online and mobile services, focusing specifically to the needs of
its intended local audience.
On the list of online
services is Yahoo! Philippines News, a soon-to-be-launched news
provider, supplying local news from Yahoo’s local media partners.
“This service is in tune
with our goal to be ‘Pinoy-centric’ and is very relevant to our
users,” said Yahoo! Southeast Asia Strategic Consultant for
Philippine operations, Cris Concepcion.
Yahoo! has also recently
introduced two new e-mail domains, Ymail and the return of
Rocketmail, to provide more alternatives for its global users. The
two new domains will provide the same Yahoo! Mail features, such as
unlimited storage, integrated instant, and text messaging, virus
protection and country-specific e-mail account.
In May 2008, Yahoo! introduced
Sponsored Search, which aids local businessmen and advertisers by
displaying their ads as paid search results across the web. This
service is offered via “pay-per-click,” payable at $.0.01 per
lead. An advertiser may start a search advertising campaign within
minutes through an online sign-up process. Such service will allow
small businesses to reach a greater number of audience.
Yahoo! has also teamed up
with numerous Philippine-based companies to provide more mobile
services.
Just recently, it has
teamed up with Smart Communications Inc. and Sun Cellular to offer
its mobile online service, Yahoo! oneSearch. Launched in 2007,
Yahoo! oneSearch provides search results on mobile phones, without
navigation hassles. It has previously partnered with Globe in 2007.
In addition to their mobile
services, Yahoo! will also be introducing the new Yahoo! Go 3.0.
This service, while integrating all Yahoo! tools and services, is an
open platform where third party partners can use the open platform
to develop widgets and applications.
Through these recently introduced
services, Yahoo! aims to be the Philippines’ starting point, the
online experience where consumers go to when they access the
Internet.
Yahoo! has recently established
its local office in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City to provide services
to its regional office in Singapore, as well as to further support
its Philippine operations.
