MORE than 850 passengers and crew of the M/V Princess of the Stars
were declared missing on Saturday off the waters of Sibuyan Island
at the height of the powerful typhoon Frank. As surely as accusing
fingers will fly over the tragedy, Filipinos and the world can
expect that the Princess mishap would be forgotten in time by the
authorities, the victims and their families are not likely to get
justice, leaving the public to write the tragedy off as a lost
cause.
This national shame has happened many times
before. A big ship sinks during a storm or in pacific weather,
hundreds of passengers and crew lose their lives, an investigation
starts, the hearing takes an inordinate time, the decision pends, no
official report is made and amnesia develops over the case. The
shipping line casts off again for more profitable business.

Bad timing

Why is it that a lot of road repairs and diggings are undertaken at
the last moment, until almost the start of classes, and when the
onset of the rainy season would surely put the work off track?

been said, “no issue is too small to be debated endlessly.”
