DENR charges police officer
for transporting ‘hot lumber’

GENERAL SANTOS CITY: The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is set to file charges against a police official who was tagged using a police vehicle in transporting illegally-saw lumber in Maitum, Sarangani.

Jim Sampulna, DENR regional executive director, said Insp. Lolito Dalde, police chief of Maitum town, will be charged with violation of forestry laws when he ordered the shipment of illegally-cut lumber using a police patrol car from Kiamba to General Santos City.

Sr. Supt. Danilo Peralta, Sarangani police director, ordered the immediate relief of Dalde after being informed of the latter’s illegal activities by Gov. Migs Dominguez and Mayor Elsie Perrett of Maitum.

Sampulna said DENR personnel led by forester Mando Pangawilan tried to flag down the vehicle carrying the lumber at a checkpoint in Kiamba but the driver ignored the DENR team.

“We will be filing appropriate charges against the erring police official for violating provisions of P.D. 705 otherwise known as Forestry Act and administrative cases before the Ombudsman and PNP,” Sampulna said.

Peralta said Dalde is now being investigated for unofficial use of a police vehicle but it is up to the DENR to file charges against Dalde for transporting illegally cut lumber.
