LETTERS

Message of sympathy from Pakistan

I am deeply shocked to hear the sad news of the tragic loss of precious life and devastation of property caused by Typhoon Frank in central and northern Philippines. The government and people of Pakistan share the grief and sorrow of the friendly people of the Philippines.

On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our deepest sympathies and condolences on this tragedy.

Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Pervez Musharraf
President
Islamic Republic of Pakistan

Shipping disasters thanks to elite rulers

If only government money were not being stolen by corrupt government officials, there would be enough funds for better weather-monitoring equipment for the Pagasa center and a better-equipped and more honest Coast Guard.

With the Philippines always hit by typhoons and heavy rains, why have not the Arroyo and the past administrations solved this problem? Answer: Our government rulers are all of the elite. They never risk their lives taking Sulpicio Line or any kind of ferry ships!
