Actions on the floor and tempers of both players and coaches are
expected to reach boiling point when Ateneo and De La Salle open
another chapter of their storied rivalry on July 6 at the Araneta
Coliseum.
Fortunately, there will be a cool presence at
courtside to offset the heat.
Gilbert Arenas, the easy-going NBA superstar
from Washington Wizards, will grace the premier collegiate
basketball league in the country on the second of his four-day visit
in Manila dubbed as the “Agent Zero Tour 2008.”
Arenas, an adidas endorser, will also lead a
turnover of a basketball court to a Gawad Kalinga community in
Quezon City. This is part of the sports apparel’s social
commitment to promote brotherhood through basketball.
“We believe that sports, specifically
basketball, is a tool to help the youth foster brotherhood and
camaraderie. The sport brings people together in the spirit of
wholesome fun and unity, that’s why this event is very important
to us,” said Adidas managing director Joey Singian.
As part of the company’s mission to give back
and to help promote sports among the youth, Arenas will head off to
the Adidas-adopted Gawad Kalinga community hit by the recent typhoon
to personally turnover a basketball court.
“We have embraced it as our mission to help
improve the lives through providing facilities that would encourage
the love for the game. By asking Arenas to lead such an undertaking
underscores our commitment to this cause,” said Singian.
Arenas, 26, is also scheduled to make mall
appearances at select Adidas outlets, going full swing on July 6 at
SM Mall of Asia at 11 a.m. where he will interact with his fans
through fun and games, autograph signing of jerseys and promo
winners, and a hand imprinting. He proceeds to the Rockwell store in
Makati at 2 p.m. then at TriNoma at 5 p.m.
After attending the UAAP match at the Big Dome,
Arenas will go back to TriNoma Activity Center at 6 p.m. for a
meet-and-greet session and a grand show highlighting Arenas’
hottest merchandise.
