HI! SOCIETY
By Becky Garcia
Going for the gold

We are at the (TOPPP) Temple of Prayer, Peace and Prosperity gave our guru Geroge Sison an asalto on his birthday recently. After careful deliberation on a theme, we unanimously decided—like the Olympians, to go for the gold. Our reception hall was bedecked with gold… for the lanterns, the trimmings, the tablecloths and of course we asked everyone to come in gold partly or completely. Naturally, Iva Mare lived up to their reputation of being at the top of the line. We all knew that if George were organizing the party himself, his choice would be gold. After all, week after week he speaks of it in different ways, in different words and on many levels—“Go for the gold you are a winner… you are a champion!”

We always look forward to George’s birthdays because we feel it is the time when we can really show our appreciation for all the blessings we enjoy throughout the year by following what he refers to as the “New Thought” way. With his methodology, we are able to handle all circumstances in our lives, both the challenging and not so challenging with greater ease and serenity.

So, indeed, there were surprise numbers galore. Steelman William Tan, wife Katherine with son Christian together with recently retired DBP executive Leila Panares and daughters Patricia and Eleanor performed an Egyptian inspired dance to the tune of Catch a Falling Star. It was so delightful to see how Christian, Patricia, and Eleanor grow up to be such sterling and successful young adults. This was followed by another group composed of Chef Victory Ado, restaurateur Gloria Yoshida, insurance lady Nadjie Veluz, educator Charisse Bienvenida and PNOC auditor Jolirich Templonuevo who was their soloist with an energetic and sexy dance routine. This easily brought the house down simply by being so unexpected. Both groups went as far as hiring professional choreographers “for the sake art” and the love of George.

The night was filled with song. The beautiful voices of Juan Rodrigo, Ernie Garcia, Amelyn Veloso, Patricia Pañares and Bo Cerrudo, whose Love Around the World premiere at the Captain’s Bar on July 4, permeated the air with haunting melodies and merriment. Then the surprise of surprises came up. Concha Honitveros was called on stage by our evening’s excellent emcees Medel Templonuevo, fresh from his UP Centennial success and the inimitable Dexter Doria, a most SIN-tillating reconteur.

The statuesque Concha stood up and started to read her valedictory where she used George’s initials to describe his many golden qualities. Here is a short version of what we remember: G for gorgeous, E for enchanting, O for outrageous, R—rich and royal (the king of his mind), another G for genius and E for extra terrestrial and enriching. Yes, we were all enriched in one way or another by his being in our lives.

George was so visible touched with all this outpouring of affection but he quickly caught himself and responded by explaining that gold stands for purity, power, a clear sky, fair weather (a clean mental and emotional atmosphere). Furthermore, it also represents gifts of the spirit like peace, love goodwill, right action and inspiration from “On High.” Wow, what are we waiting for? Let’s go for the gold. Until next week…
