Mayor Alfredo Lim of Manila on Thursday directed the
city-run Ospital ng Maynila to provide healthcare assistance to a
26-year-old mother who gave birth to quadruplets and to the baby
that was thrown out of a taxi.
Lim personally visited Sheila
Libay to check on her condition and handed financial assistance
after the latter gave birth to four babies on June 20.
The mayor assured that she and
her babies will get all the necessary care to ensure they all regain
top condition at the soonest time possible.
Lim, meanwhile, lauded the
hospital staff who were present for following his order that they
should be open to all those who need help, whether they are from
Manila or elsewhere.
It was learned that Libay and her
husband, who was from Taytay, Rizal, initially went to other
hospitals but ended up getting the help they need at the Manila
hospital.
Hospital officials said that
based on the first ultrasound report from another hospital, Sheila
was carrying triplets but actually delivered quadruplets, via
caesarian, three boys and a girl.
Of the four, however, the second
baby—a boy—died due to a very low birth weight of only 850
grams.
With the mother still pale, Lim
directed hospital director Dr. Fidel Chua to coordinate with the
Philippine Red Cross so that she may get the blood she needs to
fully recover.
Meanwhile, the hospital also
reported to the mayor that the baby girl thrown by her teenage
mother out of a taxicab in Paco, Manila, is now on her way to full
recovery. The baby only suffered minor injuries in the right hand.
