Two vessels collide without casualties

Only a week after a ferry capsized with more than 800 passengers, two sea vessels collided early Saturday but no casualties have been reported, said the Philippine Coast Guard.

The vessels bumped into each other off the Camotes Island in central Philippines but reached their respective destinations, said the Coast Guard Cebu station commander Elpidio Gunio in an interview with local radio dzRH.

This took place exactly one week after the MV Princess of the Stars sank 100 meters off an island in Romblon province, also in central Philippines, because of Typhoon Frank.

Fortunately, the MV Wonderful Stars of Robles Shipping reached the Ormoc port while the cargo ship MCC Sulu reached the Port of Cebu, after colliding with each other Saturday.

The Wonderful Stars was carrying about 600 people and crew at the time of the accident, said the coast guard.

The passenger ship sustained a “mild” hit on the left rear portion after the 9,000-ton Sulu hit it at about 1:30 a.m. early Saturday.
