AFTER four years of absence, the National Open Men’s and Women’s
Volleyball Championships returns on June 30 at the Rizal Memorial
Coliseum.
A total of 14 teams, including 10 in the men’s
division, will see action in the tournament organized by the
Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF) headed by Pedro Mendoza.
“This is one of our options wherein we can
discover talents who can also be used for the men’s and women’s
national team,” said PVF Secretary-General Oti Camangian.
Competing in the men’s division are National
College of Business and Arts, Far Eastern University, Rizal
Technological University (RTU), Philippine National Police,
Philippine Navy, Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force and club
teams Saint Jude, Pampanga and Klownz.
Participants in the women’s category are
Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force and RP Youth.
After the opening, games will be held at the RTU
Gym in Mandaluyong City on June 1 to 3 and will return to the Rizal
Memorial Coliseum on June 4 to 6.
The last National Open was held in May 2004 at
the De La Salle University-Dasmariñas in Cavite. Champions were
Philippine Air Force (men’s) and Philippine Army (women’s).
