From the good old days of SanMig bar to Miladay
and then Gold’s, the Dayrit’s are well known for their savvy
business acumen. It’s been almost a decade since I last saw
my good friend, Christine Dayrit, who came up to me during one of my
strenuous workouts in “Gold’s.” Sharing with me the
latest project of Star Cinema (some scenes shot in Gold’s), her
passion for the movies seems as fervent as it was decades back.
Losing weight, feeling good and falling in love
become the pivotal theme of Star Cinema’s upcoming movie Big Love
where Sam Milby is a 300-pound pastry chef who will sweat it out and
shape up —in the name of love—with the help of his personal
trainer Toni Gonzaga.
“We are very excited to see Toni Gonzaga essay
the role of a successful Gold’s Gym personal trainer. The
young and talented director Jade Castro made sure that it is as
realistic as possible. Toni and Jaymee Joaquin, as personal
trainers, wear our official uniform and perform their tasks just
like our other PTs. It is not a secret of course that in real
life, Gold’s Gym has assisted a lot of famous
celebrities with weight loss, body conditioning and body
sculpting,” Dayrit adds.
In Big Love Sam Milby plays Macky, who is
secretly in love with a young socialite columnist Nina, played by
Kristine Hermosa. Macky meets Aira, a personal trainer at Gold’s
Gym who helps and motivates him to lose all that weight and in the
process they develop feelings for each other.
The plot thickens when Aira accepts a two-year
job assignment at Gold’s Gym Japan to earn more money. While
she is gone, Macky achieves his goals and wins Nina’s heart. An
unexpected encounter between Aira and Macky rekindles old feelings
and Macky has to make a choice between two loves.
”This movie brings back memories of the movie
Pumping Iron which featured Gold’s Gym and launched the movie
career of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferigno. That film showed
how body builders all over the world flocked to Gold’s, the Mecca
of Bodybuilding. In Big Love, a slice of life in the gym both
in the perspective of a client, Sam, and a personal trainer, Toni.
Incidentally, Sam Milby is really a member. He has been going
to our Galleria branch since his exit from the very first PBB,”
adds Dayrit.
Gold’s Gym has branches in Glorietta 3,
Alabang, Robinsons Gallerria, Waltermart-North EDSA, Wilson in
Greenhills and Intercontinental Hotel in Makati. For more
information, please call Tina Sandejas or Angelo Mendez at 752-8088.
