A 20-year-old laborer was arrested for possession of fake peso bills
in Binondo, Manila on Thursday evening.
Currently detained at the Manila Police Station
in Binondo is Nino Amirol, a resident of Lower Bicutan,
Taguig City. He was arrested following the filing of a complaint by
Jolly Jose Alcala, a jeepney driver and a resident of San Francisco
del Monte, Quezon City.
According to the report of Police Officer 2
Lenadro Gatdula of the Binondo police station, Amirol was arrested
at around 9:20 p.m. along Ronquillo Street in Manila after the
latter tried to run away from police.
Alcala said that Amirol gave him a P100 bill to
pay for his fare. However, Alcala suspected the P100 bill to be
fake. Upon passing a police station, the jeepney driver asked a
policeman to verify if the P100 bill given to him is fake or not.
The suspect attempted to run but was chased and
caught by the police. Aside from the fake P100 bill paid to Alcala,
also found in Amirol’s possession were six pieces of fake P200
peso bills and another fake P100 bill.
The fake bills were turned over to the Bangko
Sentral ng Pilipinas for verification. The suspect faces charges of
illegal possession/use of counterfeit/fake Philippine currency.
