Around 200 students and out-of-school youth in Barangay Signal
Village, Taguig City were given scholarships for technical and
vocational courses through the “Skills 2D Max: Campus Tour” on
Thursday.
The Department of Social Welfare and
Development together with the Metro Manila Spouses’ Foundation and
the Ricky Reyes Learning Institute established “Skills 2D Max,”
which aims to promote technical and vocational courses for the
youth.
Selected students of Taguig National High
School and Signal Village National High School, and a number of
out-of-school youths were given full and partial scholarships for
technical courses related to automotive, air-conditioning,
electronics, and computer technology.
Vocational courses in hotel and restaurant
management, bartending and barista training, cosmetology, and
jewelry making were also covered in the scholarships.
Taguig City Mayor Freddie R. Tinga’s
wife, Kaye, welcomed the opportunity to provide free
technology-vocational education to the city’s underprivileged
students. She emphasized that the local government has worked very
hard to provide the city’s youth their basic right to proper
training and education.
“Education has always been and will be our top
priority here in Taguig. We believe that the youth holds the key to
the progress of our nation. That is why we are thankful that our
students and out-of-school youth are given this rare privilege to
further their learning,” said Tinga.
For his part, Ricky Reyes, who founded his
own learning institute, vowed to continue helping the
underprivileged reach their dreams through scholarships.
Aside from the Ricky Reyes Learning
Institute, the scholarships were also given by partner educational
institutions Samson College of Science and Technology, Guzman
Institute of Science and Technology, Technology Learning Resources
Center and 102 Gem Training Center.
