Mourning and Waking

It was the most beautiful funeral ever witnessed in town. All the way from the cathedral along the route to the cemetery, young girls dressed in black and covered in transparent veils of mourning showered the streets with petals of rose and frangipani for the wheels of the hearse to crush and the feet of Doña Leonora and her cortege to trample upon.
