THE Office of the Ombudsman on Monday pushed for the investigation
of the overpriced equipment amounting to more than P2.2 million
which were purchased by the Philippine Sports Commission for the use
of the national cycling team during the 2007 Southeast Asian Games.
Assistant Ombudsman Mark Jalandoni said they
sent letters to the PSC, the Philippine Cycling Federation (PhilCycling)
and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) on February 26 requesting
for copies of all documents relative to the complaint filed by the
national riders to determine if the purchase was disadvantageous to
the government.
The cyclists claimed that helmets, finger gloves
and bike tires which were bought by the PSC and turned over to
Lorenzo were not issued to them while some of those issued
were of lower quality than those specified in the official list.
