Jun Polistico comes home

ONCE tagged as Asia’s Golden Voice, Jun Polistico returns to Manila for a special solo concert at the Teatrino in Greenhills on Friday, March 7. Billed as “Jun Polistico: The Homecoming,” the concert serves as an opportunity for Polistico’s fans to see him perform once again after the singer chose to live in the United States for good.

“I’m happy to be back, “ Polistico tells The Manila Times, “It’s been a very long time and I feel like Manila has become more dynamic and there are a lot of new faces in the music scene who I don’t recognize.”

Polistico adds that he never really left singing, since he constantly gets invited to perform in shows for the Filipino communities in the 51 states of America. He also had a stint as the lead vocalist for the world-renowned band “The Society of Seven.” performing regularly in Las Vegas and the rest of the Nevada Hotel and Casino circuit.

“We [Filipinos] are everywhere. Music, I think, is already innate in us. From karaokes to concert halls, even in birthday celebrations, laging may kantahan.”

Originally from Ormoc, Polistico is known for his unmatched dedication and admirable humility, taking on gigs during his early days even when the pay is so meager. Because of his gift of voice, he became popular and still considered as one of the country’s finest balladeers of all time.

Local music critics have described Polistico’s style as a cross between Julio Iglesias and Wayne Newton. His repertoire usually includes memorable hits of Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond and Nat King Cole.

This Friday’s show is Jun Polistico’s first concert in the Philippines after a long absence, and it promises to be one very intimate concert where the music creates a very romantic environment with such hit songs as “Mahiwaga,” “Feelings,” “Ashes to Ashes,” “The Best Thing That Happened to Me,” and “Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas,” a song that earned him a platinum award from Viva Records.

“I am looking forward to this homecoming concert. I know it will be special,“ he adds. The show is produced by Viva Concerts and Events.
