SHOWBITS
By Danny Vibas
Will Cristine Reyes
make the big move?

LOOKS like it isn’t Regine Velasquez who is moving on to ABS-CBN but Cristine Reyes, Ara Mina’s younger sister.

Cristine’s contract with the Kapuso network had just expired. But even before her contract expired, she already turned up at Wowowee to do a dance number to promote her first movie with Ara. Aptly titled Ate, the movie was produced by Ara for her younger sister.

Ara has joined the cast of the ABS-CBN’s afternoon soap opera Prinsesa ng Banyera, which we heard has been getting good ratings lately. That move prompted speculations that sooner than we think, Cristine will follow suit.

Previous reports had it that GMA 7 has the sole option to renew Cristine’s contract—although people close to Christine insist that her personal handlers has not yet been provided a copy of her final contract. If the network does not use its option, then ABS-CBN should be quick in signing up Ara’s younger sister, especially now that she is being romantically linked to Willie Revillame.

Heard from my editor (who was one of the very few to be invited in a special screening) that Cristine gave a very felt performance in the movie Ate, which is directed by Lore Reyes. The movie had its premiere yesterday at Megamall.

Valerie Concepcion: Slim is in

IT seems Valerie Concepcion’s showbiz career is taking on a new shape, quite literally and figuratively. The single mom to a 3-year-old daughter has just landed her first job as an endorser for the all-natural slimming pill Slenda.

Her TV commercial piloted last weekend and she is just too happy for this good break. The commercial has her dancing in some sexy outfit that exposes her enviable waistline and curvaceous body. It’s just sexy, not bold—she warns us.

‘’I am really flattered that I have been asked to be Slenda’s endorser despite being a single mom which, of course, I have always been honest about,’’ enthused Valerie, citing some other part included in standard advertising contracts that requires good-moral character. “I’m glad the clients are not old-fashioned and judgmental, “ she added.

‘’I have to believe in the product before I can be a convincing endorser, right? I lost about 10 pounds in two months after I started taking Slenda,’’ she testified.

But losing weight is not the only flattering thing happening to her these days. She has just been renewed as one of the permanent co-hosts of Willie Revillame in the noontime show Wowowee—which is expected to stay despite the recent decision of the Department of Justice to go on with the charges involving ABS-CBN executives and employees for the ULTRA stampede that killed so many people.

Another good news for Valerie is being handpicked to be one of Vhong Navarro’s leading ladies for his forthcoming movie with Star Cinema. ‘’I think it was a good decision to have moved over to ABS-CBN about a year ago,’’ she confided.

She insisted she has no love life these days, as she is busy not just raising her daughter but also being the breadwinner of her family.
