TWO individuals who were abducted in Parañaque City by unidentified
men were rescued safely by authorities, the Philippine National
Police Chief, Director General Avelino Razon Jr., said Tuesday.
In a report received by the PNP Chief, Senior
Supt. Leonardo Espina, Chief of the Police Anti-Crime and Emergency
Response (Pacer), said victims Alberto Cabrera and Jerry Katigbak,
both of Bacoor, Cavite, were rescued 36 hours after they were
abducted on February 26.
According to reports, the two were kidnapped at
gunpoint by unidentified men who commandeered their Toyota Fortuner
in Muñoz, Quezon City.
The kidnappers, using Cabrera’s mobile phone,
contacted his wife and instructed her to produce the original
Official Receipt and Certificate of Registration of the vehicle, and
the passbook of her husband.
The Cabrera family immediately sought the
assistance of Pacer that immediately organized a group of operatives
to coordinate with Alberto’s wife.
The following day, at around 2 p.m., Alberto’s
wife received another call from the kidnappers telling them to
proceed to SM South Mall in Las Piñas City with the vehicle’s
documents and passbook.
“It was the ransom demand of the kidnappers to
withdraw all the money in Alberto’s account with the SM South Mall
branch of China Bank,” Espina explained.
Pacer operatives monitored the exchange and
simultaneously posted other operatives at the China Bank branch in
SM South Mall.
Victim Cabrera emerged from the bank at around
2:30 p.m. with the P2-million cash he had withdrawn. But nobody took
the money prompting Pacer operatives to rescue the victim.
