POWERHOUSE Harbour Centre flashed its deadly
form to beat Bacchus Energy Drink, 90-70, on Tuesday for its third
straight win in the 2008 Philippine Basketball League Lipovitan
Amino Sports Cup at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Reliables Jeff Chan, Beau Belga, Jayson Castro
and Jerwin Gaco combined for 51 points, which is more than half of
the Batang Pier’s total output.
Still playing at press time were Unity Cup
runner-up Hapee Toothpaste against guest team Nokia-RP Youth.
A win by the Complete Protectors will also
enable them to share the leadership with the Batang Pier with
identical 3-0 slate apiece.
“The team is now beginning to work together
well. This is what I’m expecting them to achieve as we go along in
the conference,” said Harbour Centre coach Jorge Galent.
The Batang Pier, mostly members of the RP
national squad that retained the 24th Southeast Asian Games
basketball event in Thailand last December, raced to a 28-8 start.
The Energy Drink Raiders held a 7-1 run
behind Hafer Mondragon and Mark Fampulme to cut down the deficit to
only 17 points, 29-46, at the close of the first period.
“They are eager to win, I can see it in their
faces. I hope we will continue playing with the same intensity
all-throughout,” added Galent, hoping to give the Batang Pier
their fifth straight crown in the country’s premier amateur
commercial league.
