SAN MIG COFFEE played strong in
the endgame to post its first win at the expense of Pharex, 91-82,
on Thursday in the 2008 PBL Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup at the Rizal
Memorial Coliseum.
Neil Raneses led the Coffee Kings
with 17 points, followed by Joel Solis with 15. Leo Losentes chipped
in 14, while Jaypee Alcaraz and Eder Saldua had 10 points each.
“We’re now in the win column
at least. This is just the beginning, we already started to work
together as a team,” said coach Koy Banal after the Coffee Kings
snapped the Medics’ two-game run.
Despite the loss, Pharex stayed
at third with a 2-1 behind co-leaders Hapee Toothpaste and Harbour
Centre.
Ronnie Matias finished with 17
points while Fritz Bauzon and Sean Co contributed 14 and 12 points,
respectively, for the Medics, who briefly held the lead at 26-24
before Raneses and Solis scored back-to-back baskets that allowed
the Coffee Kings to grab the lead, 38-34, they never relinquished.
