UM-T spikers lead Boracay qualifiers

By Emil C. Noguera Correspondent

TAGUM: University of Mindanao-Tagum (UM-T) pair Lowell Fabian and Raquelito Tayabas downed Agusan Institute of Technology’s Orpheus Cubillas and Eudardo Gonzales, 21-15, 21-14, to lead the Boracay qualifiers at the close of the 2008 Nestea Beach Volley National Circuit Mindanao elims on Thursday at the Rotary Park Beach Volleydrome here.

Capitol University’s Kiven Escobal and John Michael Vivares also advanced to the national finals slated April 24 to 26 after posting a 21-16, 14-21, 15-13 win over Holy Cross Davao College (HCDC) tandem Allen Jay Sales and Celboy Atendido.

“We trained hard before the tournament and we’re very happy with what we have accomplished. Our sacrifices and hard work paid off. It’s nice to be back in Boracay,” said the 23-year-old Fabian, who reached the national finals in 2004 and 2005.

In women’s division, HCDC’s Myka Ramos and Aiza Armacion and UM-T’s Mylin Que and Liezl Manatad posted contrasting wins to secure the first two slots in this event supported by Havaianas, Speedo, Mikasa, Penshoppe, Tagum Beach Volley Drome Rotary Park, University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park, Crystal Sand Beach Resort, Le Soleil de Boracay Hotel, La Carmela de Boracay Resort Hotel, D’Mall, D’Boracay and Hey! Jude Hotel Resort.
