Megaworld affiliate to
start bus service for BPOs

By Likha Cuevas-Miel, Reporter

In a statement, Megaworld Corp. said its affiliate First Oceanic Property Management Inc. will operate and beef up the bus company CityLink Coach Services Inc., which initially had five class-A buses and plans to add another five within this year.

First Oceanic has earmarked about P100 million for CityLink, which aims to service residents and workers of Megaworld’s real estate projects, especially the business outsourcing employees in Fort Bonifacio and Eastwood.

Megaworld said providing public transport has improved the live-work-play-learn concept that was successfully employed in Eastwood City. The property firm said passengers would only shell out P25 to get to Ayala Ave from Eastwood City.

CityLink had secured the franchise from the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board on March 6 so that its buses could ply the Eastwood City, Quezon City-Newport City, Pasay via C5 route. It had also tied up with transportation groups and set up a terminal that would also service employees and residents of McKinley Hill Cyberpark, also in Fort Bonifacio.

Megaworld credited CityLink for its contribution to the growth of BPO companies in its township projects. “With the rapid growth of our mixed-used new township project in Fort Bonifacio, McKinley Hill, we are expecting an influx of workers and residents in the months to come,” Jericho Go, Megaworld first vice president, said.

Moreover, Go said the transport system benefits start-up and established companies in Eastwood City and McKinley Hill Cyberpark as it could improve employee retention and cut costs on transportation expenses.

He said CityLink would also include the future BPO locations such as Newport City across NAIA 3 and Cityplace in Binondo, Manila in its routes.

Meanwhile, Megaworld continues to develop McKinley Hill and targets to finish at least two new BPO office buildings in Cyberpark alone within one year. The firm is pouring P12 billion in investments in McKinley Hill within the next few years to transform it into a BPO hub. About P3 billion has already been allocated for the project’s commercial component while another P18 billion was already alloted for development of residences, including McKinley Hill Village.
