PRESIDENT Gloria Arroyo said she will sign the 2008 General
Appropriations Act today.
“It is a budget that reflects the will of the
government to work together with Congress to invest in the people
and keep the economy on a strong and stable path,” President
Arroyo said Monday in a speech at the Mindanao Cooperative Summit in
Cagayan de Oro City.
As proposed by the Palace and approved by
Congress, the 2008 budget totals P1.227 trillion, of which the
biggest allocation goes to social services like education and
health.
The President said the tax reforms that her
administration had pushed had resulted in more money for social
spending.
“We can build not
just roads, bridges, and schools, but also provide for more health
care, education, and care for the environment, and over time,
everyone will benefit,” she said.
