canceled $330-million national broadband network project surprised
senators when he denied any knowledge of alleged kickbacks and
anomalies surrounding the controversial deal with ZTE Corp.,
China’s biggest telecommunications firm.
Dante Madriaga, a previous
witness in the Senate inquiry into the broadband deal, does not want
senators to order the arrest and detention of “surprising”
witness Leo San Miguel, his former boss.

The Hong Kong-based Political and
Economic Risk Consultancy has once again found the Philippines, as
in previous surveys, among the most corrupt economies, along with
Thailand and China. The conclusion comes from its annual survey of
13 national economies in Asia (excluding Myanmar and Bangladesh).
The group regionally polls about 1,400 respondents, expatriate
businessmen, in the 13 countries. The Philippines scored 9.0. In
PERC’s rating system, 10 is the worst and 0 is best score.
Forty-six artists from three different
generations have come together to combine their gift of voice and
music on what is touted as the next “People Power” anthem.
“Kaya Mong Maging Dakila” (You Can Be Noble), a collaboration of
artists from the local rock, alternative and OPM scene as well as
from theater, was launched recently at the Conspiracy Garden Café
in Quezon City. Present during the launch were veterans as well as
new faces in the industry, which included Cabangon, Noel Trinidad,
Bimbo Cerrudo, Ermie Concepcion, Susan Fernandez, and Ronnie Lazaro.
