KIEL MISA scored 21 points, including two
three-pointers in the fourth quarter, to lift Burger King over
Bacchus Energy Drink, 53-50, on Thursday in the 2008 PBL Lipovitan
Amino Sports Cup at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Kelvin Gregorio’s two triples and another one
from Mike Bravo also helped the Whoopers improve their win-loss
record to 4-2 for solo third.
“I knew, it’s not going to be easy for us.
We are just lucky, we have those triples in the final quarter that
saved our day,” said Burger King coach Allan Gregorio.
The Whoopers were down, 30-37, before Bravo sank
a triple to spark a rally that forged the game’s sixth deadlock at
38-all, 8:43 remaining in the fourth period.
“I knew Coach Lawrence [Chongson] is good at
that kind of situation, but thank God, we made those important shots
especially those from Kelvin [Gregorio] and Kiel [Misa]. The team is
getting stronger now,” added Gregorio.
Even if the Whoppers only made 33 percent in the
field goal, they shot better in the three-point area, hitting 9 of
26 attempts for an average of 33 percent compared to the Bacchus
Raiders’ only 16 percent, on 3 of 19 tries.
“If we can shoot better in the three-point
area, that means the confidence level is high,” stressed Gregorio,
younger brother of Purefoods coach Ryan.
Misa, a student from University of Perpetual
Help, also had four rebounds and eight assists, while Nestor David
finished with eight points.
Christian Luanzon led the Raiders with 11 points
followed by Jorel Canizares with nine and Nat Cruz with eight.
