Comelec sets info drive
for automated elections

ZAMBOANGA CITY: The Commission on Election (Comelec) is set to conduct an information and education campaign in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in preparation for the coming automated election, reported the Philippine News Agency.

Sulu provincial election supervisor Vidzfar Juli said the information and education drive is a pre-requisite to inform and educated the voters about the new system of elections to be conducted in August.

Juli said the Comelec had set the date from March 23 to 26 for the information and education drive in the provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi provinces.

The information campaign for the rest of the ARMM areas that include the provinces of Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and Sharrif Kabunsuan and Marawi City are scheduled on another date, according to Juli.

The election in Maguindanao will be fully automated from voting up to the counting of votes while the rest of ARMM areas will only have automated counting of votes.

More than one million registered voters are trooping to the polling precincts on August 11 to elect a new set of ARMM officials that would serve for a three-year term.

They will elect a regional governor, vice-governor and members of the Regional Legislative Assembly that would represent each of the six provinces and one city in the RLA.

The Comelec central office has already conducted the bidding for the purchase of the needed machines to be used in the automated polls in ARMM.
