THE Pasay City Police are investigating six students of De La
Salle-Santiago Zobel School following the fatal fall of their fellow
student, Ambrosio Gregorio Robles, from the sixth floor of the
Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel in Pasay City, which caused the
victim’s death last March 9.
The six students were the victim’s roommates
at Room 653, where the group checked in after attending their
graduation ball. In their initial statements to police, the students
claimed they were asleep and did not see Robles fall off the porch
of Room 653.
“We believe these students did not entirely
tell us what happened. Worst, they could be hiding something,”
said a police investigator who refused to be named. The police
earlier said that it was an accident.
Pasay City Police Chief Senior Supt. Marietto
Valerio confirmed the investigation being done on the students, but
stopped short in saying that they were looking into the students’
possible criminal liability.
Valerio said that the Pasay Police Criminal
Investigation Division has yet to wrap up its investigation on the
case, and it is still premature to say that there was a foul play in
Robles’ death.
The officer on the case, P03 Reynaldo Aguba,
earlier ruled out the suicide angle as there were no signs that the
victim had family or school problems. According to Aruba, Robles
belongs to a wealthy family and even passed a college entrance
examination in the United States.
A police source said that videos taken by the
hotel’s closed circuit television cameras showed the De La Salle
students were playing around the sixth floor lobby at past midnight
of March 9. The police investigator said the students occupied rooms
653, 654, and 651, but they were running in and out of the rooms.
“We don’t know if Robles could have fallen
off their room’s porch while they were playing around,” the
source added.
Valerio, however, said that it is also possible
that the cameras were not in the right places, and Robles’ fall
was not captured.
