MASINLOC, Zambales: The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources (BFAR) imposed a shellfish ban Monday after traces of red
tide were found during their monitoring at Masinloc Bay in the
province.
BFAR Director Malcolm Sarmiento, Jr. said that
based on the results of their monitoring in the waters of Masinloc
bay, shellfish tested positive for Red tide toxin.
Besides Masinloc the ban is also in effect in
Sorsogon Bay, Sorsogon City, Sorsogon; Bislig Bay in Bislig City,
Surigao del Sur; Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur; Irong-Irong
Bay in Catbalogan, Samar; and Wawa in Bani, Pangasinan.
The ban included alamang harvested from the said
area but he clarified that fish is safe to eat as long as it is
fresh and all internal organs have been removed before cooking.
