RP-US bomb experts hold
training for new policemen

ZAMBOANGA CITY: Local bomb experts and their American counterparts trained 200 new policemen on post-blast investigation and crime scene management, reported the Philippine News Agency. The Philippines and the United States are allied in the global fight against terror.

Zamboanga Peninsula Police Office (ZPPO) Explosive and Ordinance Demolition Chief Supt. Jose Bayani Gucela said the training was designed to enhance the knowledge of policemen in the investigation of bombing incidents and other forms of terror acts.

The 2-day training last week was conducted at Camp Romeo Abendan with the assistance of two US bomb experts, said Gucela.

The latest batch of policemen participated in the training, as post-blast investigation and crime scene management were integrated into their ongoing 45-day scout-training course.

He said the new policemen were taught “how to protect a crime scene involving an explosion, and how to search and what to look for after a bomb explosion.”

He said the two US bomb experts shared their skills and knowledge on post-blast investigation, handling of explosives and how to address bomb threats and other forms of terrorism.

The 200 policemen who took part in the training came from different parts of the region that fall within the area of jurisdiction of ZPPO.

They are from the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay and the cities of Dapitan, Dipolog, Isabela, Pagadian and Zamboanga.
