THE Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway will be open during Holy Week, the
Bases Conversion Development Authority announced Tuesday.
Aileen Zosa, BCDA vice-president for business
development, said the 94-kilometer expressway will be open to
motorists this week for free. “Instead of [them] paying P2.20 per
kilometer, the expressway will be open for free as a Holy Week
special to all vehicles,” she said.
For this week, heavy vehicles such as tracks and
buses will not be allowed to use the road, which is still undergoing
some finishing touches, Zosa said.
“This road will beef up trade and commerce all
over Luzon, and it would only take 45 minutes from Subic going to
Clark, compared with the usual route going to Clark and vice
versa,” she said.
The SCTEX was earlier scheduled for opening in
January but the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA)
later moved its opening to the end of April.
SCTEX has 34 bridges, four of them “major”
spans, measuring 300 meters or more, which are now undergoing final
inspection.
