AGRICULTURE Secretary Arthur Yap warned all market vendors that
their licenses can be revoked if they will increase the prices of
their goods this Holy Week.
Yap said consumers who encounter an unusual
increase in the prices of food commodities can file a complaint
against the concerned market vendor with the Department of Trade and
Industry.
Yap , who made the rounds of wet markets in
Metro Manila at the onset of Holy Week, said that on top of a 57-day
rice stockpile, the summer harvests expected in the months ahead
will further beef up the country’s supply and guarantee ample
stocks in retail outlets nationwide. Hence, there should be no price
increase for rice.
Meanwhile, the per kilogram price in the
department’s partner Bagsakan centers for different commodities
are: pork P130 to P137; bangus P70 to P72; tilapia P70 to P90; whole
chicken P110 to P115; ampalaya P50 to P63; string beans P10 to P15;
cabbage P9; tomato P10 to P14; eggplant P15 to P22; National Food
Authority rice P18.25; and refined sugar P36.
