THE Burger King Whoppers leaned on solid defense in the final half
to beat the Pharex Medics, 82-78, on Tuesday in the 2008 PBL
Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Abby Santos, Khiel Misa and Marcy Arellano
anchored the defensive stance of the Whoppers, which held the Medics
to 38 percent field goal shooting en route to their fifth win in
seven matches.
The win moved the Whoppers to a share of second
spot with the Medics, who had their four-game winning run snapped.
The Whoopers led for the majority of the match,
but the Medics refused to go down easily and kept on threatening
behind the forays of Fritz Bauzon, Emer Oreta and Don Villamin.
Emer Oreta and Dom Villamin scored a basket each
to move the Medics to within, 75-79, 1:23 remaining in the match.
But Marcy Arellano answered with a short jumper
to bail the Whoppers out of trouble, 81-75, 32 seconds left.
