Top Filipino cue artists vie
for Japan 9-Ball Open title

FORMER world champions Efren “Bata” Reyes, Alex Pagulayan and Ronnie Alcano will lead a host of Filipino players in the 2008 Japan 9-Ball Open beginning Saturday in Tokyo, Japan.

Reyes is seeking his first major victory in more than a year. His last championship came in the Derby City Classic in January last year.

Joining them in the prestigious tournament are former world’s No. 1 Francisco “Django” Bustamante, who topped the Derby City Classic this year; 2006 Doha Asian Games 9-ball gold medalist Antonio “Ga-Ga” Gabica, 2006 Doha Asian Games 9-ball silver medalist Jeffrey de Luna, reigning national champion Lee Vann Corteza, 2006 World Pool League winner Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo, veteran campaigners Warren Kiamco, Antonio “Nickoy” Lining, Ramil “Bebeng” Gallego, Dondon Razalan and Roel Esquillo.

Tipped to give the Filipinos a tough time are the Taiwanese bets led by two-time world champion Fong Pang-Chao and the usual suspects from the United States and Europe.
